An orthogonal GMM based speaker verification system

چکیده
This paper describes a new speaker verification system based on orthogonal Gaussian mixture modeling (GMM) techniques combined with maximum a posteriori (MAP) adaptation. In most of the GMM based speaker verification systems, the variance of each component is constrained to be diagonal for its computational simplicity. However, this approximation inevitably introduces performance degradation. To reduce this deleterious effect, we combine the orthogonal transform and MAP adaptation to build our system. The transform matrix is shared according to which mixture of the Speaker Independent (SI) model the current mixture component is adapted from. This gives significant system performance improvement at the cost of introducing only a small additional computational load.

On the use of orthogonal GMM in speaker recognition
The Gaussian mixture modeling (GMM) techniques are increasingly being used for both speaker identification and verification. Most of these models assume diagonal covariance matrices. Although empirically any distribution can be approximated with a diagonal GMM, a large number of mixture components are usually needed to obtain a good approximation. A consequence of using a large GMM is that its ...
متن کاملDiscriminative adaptation for speaker verification
Speaker verification is a binary classification task to determine whether a claimed speaker uttered a phrase. Current approaches to speaker verification tasks typically involve adapting a general speaker Universal Background Model (UBM), normally a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), to model a particular speaker. Verification is then performed by comparing the likelihoods from the speaker model to t...
متن کاملPresenting a New Text-Independent Speaker Verification System Based on Multi Model GMM
Speaker verification is the process of accepting or rejecting claimed identity in terms of its sound features. A speaker verification system can be used for numerous security systems, including bank account accessing, getting to security points, criminology and etc. When a speaker verification system wants to check the identity of individuals remotely, it confronts problems such as noise effect...
متن کاملSpeaker Verification Using Orthogonal GMM with Fusion of Threshold, Identification Front-end, and UBM
This paper shows that the performance of a Gaussian Mixture Model using a Universal Background Model (GMM-UBM) speaker verification (SV) system can be further improved by combining it with threshold and speaker identification (SI) “front-ends.” The paper formulates performance in terms of false rejection rate and false acceptance rate of the overall SV system. We show analytically that an SI-ba...
متن کاملFeature-based and channel-based analyses of intrinsic variability in speaker verification
We explore how intrinsic variations (those associated with the speaker rather than the recording environment) affect textindependent speaker verification performance. In a previous paper we introduced the SRI-FRTIV corpus and provided speaker verification results using a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) system on telephone-channel speech. In this paper we explore the use of other speaker verificati...
